About the area

Muskoka, Canada is situated at the southern tip of the Canadian Shield. Located 1.5 hours north of Toronto, Muskoka is a vast district of 1,600 shimmering lakes, thundering waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, and aromatic pine forests.

Recently named “The Malibu of the North” by the New York Times, Muskoka’s natural and cultural similarities to Malibu draw visitors from all over the world. Embedded in the southern tip of the Canadian Shield, Muskoka’s landscape is known for its rugged rock formations; its lakes and rivers having been carved into the Shield in prehistoric times by retreating glaciers.

Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery is a cranberry farm and award-winning winery open to visitors year round. The daily Bog to Bottle Discovery, a guided tour and tutored wine tasting, is a Canadian and Muskoka Signature Experience. Visitors can also relax on the patio and browse the locally inspired wine and gift store. Check out the Muskoka wilderness in any season on the hiking and snowshoe trails, or skate around frozen cranberry bogs on the Ice Trail. With hiking trails available at most locations to create access, ‘chasing waterfalls’ can be a great activity in the summer and fall. Bracebridge is at the heart of the waterfalls in Muskoka, boasting more than any other township, most notably High Falls, Wilson Falls, and Bracebridge Falls. One of the region’s most spectacular cascades is Ragged Falls, located east of Huntsville on Hwy 60, at Ragged Falls Provincial Park. This was voted one of the 10 best waterfalls in Ontario!
