Muskoka is home to many winter sports
as we enjoy the snow covered off-season months which accent the quiet beauty of our region! There is nothing quite like trees and trails covered in a fresh blanket of snow. For those who are interested in finding new ways to enjoy Muskoka in the winter, read on!
Whether you are already well versed in the sport, or trying something new, here are a few Muskoka Trails where you can enjoy this sport:
Gravenhurst Nordic Trails: Located at the Gravenhurst KOA camping site, Gravenhurst Nordic trails contain 14 km of trails. It provides ski and snowshoe rentals so no need to worry if you are in need of the equipment to get started. There are day rates and season passes available.
Arrowhead Provincial Park: Home to the famous “Fire and Ice Nights”, Arrowhead Provincial Park includes 28 km of cross-country ski trails and 16 km of skating trails which have ranging difficulty. If you are more interested in show-shoeing, you can visit their 8 km marked snowshoe trails. There is a trail here for everyone!
Milford Manor Golf Course: This is a shorter trail but it comes at no cost! It is approximately 1 km long and is groomed weekly with snowshoeing also available.
Johnstons Cranberry Marsh Ice Trail: The Ice Trail is 1.2 km between the cranberry beds and forest! There are 10 km of show shoeing and cross-country skiing trails available as well! To top it off, once you are finished skating or skiing you can indulge in the winery for wine tasting or a hot beverage! Enjoy wine & cheese on their fireside patio and be sure to tour through their gift shop on your way out!
Bracebridge Resource Management Centre Trail: A beautifully scenic 16.5 km trail running parallel to the shores of the Muskoka River which winds through the forest. This well marked trail does not have a cost. For snowshoers there is a smaller half km loop as snowshoers are not permitted on the main trail.
Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve: Limberlost boasts over 70 km of hiking, biking, skiing, and snowshoeing at no cost! There are numerous ski trails of varying difficulty. Check out their website for information on the condition of each of their trails!
